A Successful Day

It was a great day for jewelry!! Many thanks to all who came and bought and stopped by to chat! It is always nice to be in the presence of so much creativity. Hopefully within the next 6 months I will have a website up and going so that customers can order directly from the site. It is a long term goal that I need to focus on once my crazy life gets in order! (which will be soon!) Right now I am getting ready to hunker down for the winter. Happy Holidays!!

All the pretty little flowers

Chamomile and impatients

I love when all the flowers are blooming. I look forward to them every year. It gives me something that I can count on, something that I can enjoy just for the sake of looking. People plant flowers for different reasons. I plant them so that I have something to look at that pleases me. I like the way they look in different lights, I like their imperfections as well as their varieties in color. For me, there is nothing passive about planting flowers. I inspect them, I nurture them, I enjoy them. They are my bright spot of the day.

Storm Clouds

These are some really cool clouds that I saw yesterday morning. I was almost late (Ok, I WAS late) for work because I was outside watching the storm come in. The clouds were so dark and menacing, but the pictures don't even do them justice! In the minutes it took me to run upstairs and get my camera and rush outside with it, they had changed into something else. But they were still worth capturing. I love a good storm. I love the preparation of the earth and all it's living things as they wait. Anticipation is sometimes more exhilarating than the actual event.

I especially like the first picture. If you look closely and use your imagination, you can see a white heart in the clouds. It is sort of leaning to it's side, but still... I can see it. It may just be the artist in me, or the hopeless romantic... I could never give up on love, or stop believing in it, no matter how bad I was hurt at one time. It's just not in me.

dragonfly

I

see

them

arrive in the garden like electric blue trains,

like shiny- eyed fighter jets when

they

glide on the vaporous air.

Then

they

pause

and

turn

mid

way

some pictures of mushrooms that I took

Here are some giant mushrooms that appeared a few days after it rained. There is small garden at the track where I run, and when I was done running, I ran home to get my camera. I like to imagine little faeries sitting under them to keep dry.

Some of the jewelry I make

Every year I do an arts and crafts show in Pittsburgh where I sell my handmade jewelry. Soon I hope to expand my craft and sell at more shows. Time is always the issue....
I work in polymer clay, silver, copper, semi precious gemstones and crystals. If you see something that you want, please contact me at my email address listed under my info page.

Snow

january 7, 2010

From God's white palette

it comes

to silence everything.

It falls

in soundless motion

and is captured

by the waiting arms of every tree.

Painted pine boughs kneel.

Lamp posts shimmer.

Crystals kiss my cold lips.

And the air is close and intimate.

My breath floats on

and back to me-

my world transformed.

The earth sighs and swells,

receiving it's blanket for the starless night.

The Subway

I am underground

the flicker boards

pause and resume

lights hiss like a flash bulb-

Stone upon stone

holds up the earth

so we may pass through.

The eye of the needle

narrows down dark,

the insects pause and resume.

A blur of humanity

mirrors by like

two crickets in the night-

two electric worms.

Hollow chambers chafe their

walls on chalk and embers

so many sparks-

We glide by like dragonflies

intertwined.

Motion moving motion

and their conjugate kiss…

Speeding on the rails' edge,

I am not ready for the light

when it hits!

We are ghost shadows sharing air.

Out of the gray mouth

of coal, rock and lime,

steel upon steel takes the bridge.

Hello and welcome to my blog!

My name is Mary and I am an artist. There are many types of art that I enjoy. I believe that anything created from your own passion can be an art form. I will dedicate this blog to the many things that I have a passion for.
Life is to be enjoyed and noticed. There is art everywhere, from the way the sun slants onto a pile of colored leaves to the dark and brooding sight of the old steel mills in Pittsburgh (where I grew up). I can see the beauty in these things because I am paying attention, because I notice my surroundings. I want to remember things. I want to live fully in the moment. Each day is a gift and something good always comes if we are listening and watching...
